Milton L. Bennett Resume 1970-1996 U.S.
Coast Guard I have been
involved with the shore unit and ship board safety programs throughout my
military career. I have been designated as a unit safety petty officer at a
Loran station, motor pool and other shore stations. I have been designated as
the ships training petty officer and as Chief of the Boat on the ‘cutter
Eagle I planned the safety training for the entire engineering department. I
was an instructor at the Engineering and Weapons school for 8 years where I
gave safety training to MK “A” (Beginning Marine Engineers) students and was
involved with the writing of safety courses for the school. Specific Coast
Guard Safety Training 1983-1986 While on board
the Coast Guard Cutter PLanetree in Ketchikan Alaska I was
required to attend the Navy Fire Fighting and Damage Control school for
surface vessels located in Honolulu Hawaii. I also was given 2 months of
training on main space ship fire and damage control. I also established an
EGRES route for the ships emergency evacuation response. I was involved with
the ship firefighting and damage control training for my entire tour. Specific Coast
Guard Safety Training 1990-1993 I was assigned
to the Coast Guard Cutter Eagle as the Chief of Main Propulsion and Training
Officer for Damage Control I trained personnel in the proper use of the
Emergency Breathing Apparatus, and use of extinguishers. I also gave training
for firefighting teams along with planning drills for emergency EGRES and
confined space entry. Specific
Safety Training 1997-1998 I taught part
time at the ALCOA aluminum manufacturing plant that was in operation near
Frederick Maryland. I gave courses to Mill Wright Apprentices in the
industrial technology areas which included plant safety requirements for
boilers, hydraulics and pneumatics. I covered the importance of flange guards
for high pressure systems and machinery guards throughout the plant. 1996-2012 High
School Vocational Instructor I have taught
the safety portions of vocational trades such as Auto, Machine Trades, Wood
Trades and Welding at 4 high schools. I have mentored the OSHA on line
training program for high school seniors that are offered in a 10 hour
session. 2012-2013 New
River Workforce Project I have
recently completed designing a training program for a local motor rebuild plant
which consisted of 75 sections for employee training. These sections included
safety precautions and policies that are required when working in the plant
operations. 2013- 2014
present Instructor I am in the
process of finishing a semester of teaching to the New River Technical
College in Ghent covering Industrial Technology and Introduction to Heavy
Equipment Operation. I have had to teach the OSHA and Industry safety
regulations for both of these courses. Some of the topics covered are Lock
Out and Tag Out procedures, Heavy Equipment safety, Jurisdictions of OSHA
regulations and the study of accidents and their prevention. I have covered
the new GHS required training for SDS and Chemical Labeling. Part of my heavy
Equipment class is required to be trained on Work Zone Safety requirements,
ditch and hole spoil pile safety and barrier requirements. 2014-Present I am currently
working as a safety consultant and trainer (OSHA) for a company that
specializes in safety programs for industry. I am also registered for my OSHA
10 construction in September and plan on being OSGA 30 construction shortly
afterwards. |
